Arm-of-the-Sea Awarded National Endowment for the Arts Grant!
... but to receive it we need your help!

Mother and Child from 'To Defy the Beast', photo (c)2003 by Roy Gumpel Dear Friends:

Believe it or not, we're in our 23rd season of theater making! And we're cooking it up more than ever before --- fresh, feisty, celebratory, irreverent.

2004 in a nutshell - Two brand new productions were birthed this year, plus 53 performances and 60 days of residencies. Our work was featured at SUNY Ulster, Warwick Summer Arts Festival, Tribeca Performing Arts, the Museum of Jewish Heritage and the Imagine Festival of Art & Ideas, Residencies included Greenville High School, Kingston High School, Woodstock Elementary School and a four week summer arts & ecology project with young people in Poughkeepsie, Newburgh and the Bronx.

Staying afloat in 2005 - These residencies provide a more intensive, sustained interaction with young people but less overall income. To make ends meet, we're developing new sources of support and have a full season of work scheduled for 2005, including six major residencies, three new productions and our Esopus Creek Puppet Suite.

We just received some good news - A grant from the National Endowment for the Arts will help fund our fifth annual Esopus Creek Puppet Suite. This outdoor theater spectacle will take place August 26 & 27 in Saugerties NY. We'll be partnering with the Rural & Migrant Ministry to create a show about migrant farmworkers in the Hudson Valley.

... but we'll need your help - In order to receive the NEA grant, we have to raise $10,000 in matching funds. So we are reaching out to you, our friends and supporters, who have enjoyed our shows over the years. We seldom ask you for money but these are particularly crucial times. If you believe that the arts are vital to a healthy culture, please empower us with a contribution. Consider it an investment in the life force of your vibrant, extended community.
