The following projects are in various stages of development:
Our 2014 Esopus Creek Puppet Suite – This annual production draws on events and characters from local history and weaves them into larger-than-life stories. This year’s Suite will be based on early 20th century Saugerties, and include more scenes of the town’s largest local employer,—the Martin Cantine Paper Company. Other scenes will explore stories of how area residents survived the Great Depression, the rise and fall of the Saugerties Steamboat Line, and the arrival of Augusta Savage, a Harlem Renaissance artist who lived the last twenty years of her life in Saugerties.
Under the supervision of directors Patrick Wadden and Marlena Marallo, a number of the show’s masks & puppet characters will be created in public workshops and in-school residencies. After that, community volunteers will join with veteran Arm-of-the-Sea performers to rehearse the multi-layered scenes and bring the production to life on Aug. 22, 23, & 24.
